I am married to my high school sweetheart, Desi Melancon Goodson, and have been for 10 years as of June 3, 2016. She is a music teacher at Pearl Lower Elementary School. We have two beautiful children, Paislee Raye (7) and Andy David (18 mo.). My interests include writing/performing/producing/practicing/listening to music, fishing, technology (pretty much anything that lights up or beeps), and spending time with my family. We are excited about the work that God has already done in Florence through First Baptist Church and are eager to contribute our gifts and talents for the growth of His Kingdom.

Worship and Senior Adult Pastor

I am a native of Vicksburg, MS. After graduating from Vicksburg H.S. in 2002, I attended Delta State University where I would receive a B.M.E. with an emphasis in instrumental music in 2007. While teaching band in Wiggins, Vicksburg, and Rolling Fork over the course of 5 years, I served several churches in a part-time or interim capacity. In May of 2012, I surrendered to my calling as a full-time minister. In June of 2012, I began my first full-time ministry at Woodlawn Baptist Church as the Minister of Music and Minister to Children. In June of 2016, I started my ministry here at First Florence as the Worship and Sr. Adult Pastor.

As a child attending Immanuel Baptist Church in Vicksburg, MS, I caved to peer pressure and "walked the aisle." I believed that I had received salvation that day. I was not a "bad" kid, so it was not necessary to me at that time to evaluate myself and look for fruit. A few years later at youth camp, the pastor speaking to us made this statement: "If you accepted Christ and there was not an immediate transformational change in your life, it was not real." Those words stuck with me. I knew that even though I was not "bad," I did not have Jesus. He was not the focus and driving force in my life. I rarely consulted Him on any matter. I had no sense of desperation in what little prayer life I had. So, I accepted Christ that night and professed my faith in Him when I returned to church the following Sunday.
2 Corinthians 3:5 - Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
